How can I apply for First Republic's ATM/Debit Card?
You may apply for First Republic's ATM/Debit Card at your local preferred banking office.
Since the card has a Visa logo, is it a credit card?
No, it is not a credit card. Your card can be used to make purchases worldwide anywhere Visa is accepted, but any purchase you make with the card is deducted directly from your First Republic checking account within 1-3 days of your purchase. However, Visa merchants treat the transaction like a credit card for authorizations and processing.
How do I use the card?
The First Republic ATM/Debit Card performs like a standard ATM card. You may make withdrawals, transfers, deposits and loan payments at any First Republic ATM or perform withdrawals and transfers at any network ATM. When the card is used at an ATM or merchant's Point of Sale terminal, you enter your PIN to authorize the transaction. The added check feature of the ATM/Debit Card enables you to use the card instead of writing a check when making a purchase or obtaining services from any merchant displaying the Visa logo. The merchant obtains an authorization for the purchase with your signature. However, when the transaction is settled, the amount is deducted from your checking account.
Where can I use the card?
You can use the card to access your First Republic checking account at more than 800,000 Automated Teller machines world wide, wherever you see the PLUS, STAR, NYCE and VISA symbols. You may also make purchases anywhere the Visa symbol is displayed.
Is there a daily limit on my purchases or cash withdrawals?
The daily purchase and withdrawal limit is based on your primary checking account linked to the card. Call your local preferred banking office to verify the daily limits of your card or call 1-800-392-1400 for the preferred banking office nearest you.
What happens if I do not have enough money in my account to cover a purchase?
You must have sufficient funds in your First Republic checking account to complete a purchase transaction. If you do not have sufficient funds in your account, the purchase will not be authorized and the merchant will not process the sale.
How do I record transactions performed with the ATM/Debit Card?
Save your cash withdrawal and purchase receipts. Enter the amount of each transaction in your check register for balancing. All transactions completed with your card will appear on your monthly statement showing the merchant name, location, date and amount of the transaction.
Why is this card better than a standard ATM Card?
In addition to using virtually any ATM terminal, you enjoy the flexibility of making purchases with your card anywhere the Visa logo is displayed. You also gain the protection of Visa Purchase Security and Extended Protection on most purchases made with your ATM/Debit Card.
What if my card is lost or stolen?
If your card has been lost or stolen, or if you suspect the card has had unauthorized use, call 1-800-392-1407. If you are outside the United States, call collect at 973-682-2652 to report your card. You can immediately cancel your card until you are able to contact your local preferred banking office. With the added protection of Visa security, you are not liable for any unauthorized use provided you contact the bank within two business days of any such incident.
