Reaching into the community: The BASIC Fund

The Bay Area Scholarship for Inner-city Children (BASIC) Fund is a privately funded scholarship program created to expand educational opportunity for low-income families in the San Francisco Bay Area. First Republic Bank continues to support The BASIC Fund both monetarily and through the donation of office space. As you may know, First Republic Bank's involvement began with Jim Herbert, who is a founding board member of the Fund.

The program is available to students entering kindergarten through 8th grade and who will be attending a private school in Marin, San Francisco, and San Mateo Counties. For the 2001-2002 academic year the program will be expanding to Alameda County. The program provides four-year partial (up to a $1500 yearly maximum) scholarships to help families send their children to the private or parochial schools of their choice. The BASIC Fund scholarships are awarded on the basis of financial need.

For more information about this program please contact the BASIC Fund at (415) 986-5650 or visit them on line at www.basicfund.org.
